A bit grey and chilly as we woke up Sunday morning........but no rain yet! We had another nice breakfast downstairs at Princes and then go organized and had someone help out with the bags and retrieving the car. We were probably on the road by 10:30. We were headed for lunch to the town of Anstruther, probably 90 minutes north and east. The story that Andrea had read said a restaurant there, the Fish Bar, had the fish and chips in England!......probably a bit of a stretch, but it worked for us. It was a beautiful drive on some back roads and the sun actually came out as we got close to the coast.
It was a fun fishing village and the food was everything it was promoted to be. We had to wait a while as we arrived during the Sunday lunch crowd. From there we were off to St. Andrews and a hotel called Rufflets. We arrived in mid-afternoon in time to walk through the amazing gardens and ground.......really a very special place! I am so psyched to get back to do some planting! Their kitchen garden was a real inspiration! We also had a signed photo of the Jack Nicklaus family in our room, the Turret Room......saying how much they loved the hotel!
We had a short rest and then set off to explore downtown St. Andrews. The city is supported by two major institutions, St. Andrews University and the St. Andrews golf courses! Things appeared fairly quiet for a Sunday afternoon and we had a short walk along the coast amongst some spectacular ruins.
Drinks and dinner at the restaurant were fun. We started with a drink in the bar and then moved on to dinner in the dining room........but found out that we were the only ones there! Everyone appeared to be taking their meals in the bar area. We decided to join the crowd and had a good time. (I cheated and had a cheeseburger!) We had a table right by the fireplace, which was perfect for a chilly evening.

DINNER BACK AT RUFFLETS
WALLPAPER......SERIOUSLY!
The length of this blog reminds us of how much we did today.......and why we were so exhausted at the end of day.
